I drove up a short incline today, which the Edge 1000 promptly showed on the display as 26%. The Edge 1040 showed nothing for a long time and in the end only 22%, the climb was already over. Why is the Edge 1040 so slow?

There's already a huge thread on the topic here: https://forums.garmin.com/sports-fitness/cycling/f/edge-1040-series/296993/what-about-gradient-lag
What solution does Garmin have?
I paid about €500.00 for the Edge 1040! Should I switch to the competition?
The 1030+ has had the same elevation/gradient delay problem ever since it was released about two and a half years ago (the older 1000 and 1030 didn't have the problem), and Garmin have been incapable of fixing it, so I wouldn't hold your breath expecting a solution.
