Typically opaque.  The details of the 4th item would be the most interesting. Of course enumerating what they fixed would also enumerate and admit to what they screwed up on in the first place.

Change logs have become increasingly vague these days, and not just from Garmin. Every time I update apps on my phone its the same. Bug fixes or performance improvements, no specifics. To be fair, just because a bug was fixed doesn't mean that someone screwed up. Sometimes fixing a bug, adding a new feature or just making improvements can cause unwanted side effects in the form of bugs. I imagine and hope that Garmin software engineers are using some form of automated code testing and that the QA people have a solid test/regression plan. But even if they are doing all that, it's not a guarantee that bugs won't slip through occasionally. Edge case bugs can be frustratingly hard to find and fix. Imagine all the different ways people configure and use these devices, then add in all the different devices that a user can connect to and the enormous number of things that can be installed from the app store. There is just no way to account for every use case and test for that. Bottom line is all software has bugs, some bugs are easy to find and fix while others border on almost impossible.

I'm a software engineer my self, and have had numerous Garmin products over more than 20 years. My experience is that Garmin has a big quality improvement potential. Both when it comes to testing and regression testing, but also the way they handle reported bugs. 

Sure SW is difficult, but Garmin is doing countless rookie mistakes repatedly, making it hard to be entusiastic about what else would have been great products. I received my 1040 back in June, and at the moment I have found it necessary to revert to my old 1030 (that I should have sold). 

Like now, I have connection to my phone, it starts Livetrack, but when I end my session it doesn't sync it through Garmin Connect. Getting home, turning it on, it doesn't either over wifi even if it has a connection. The only way to get it working is to use a cable and Garmin Express - bug introduced in 15.23, still there in 15.24. I know I'm not the only one with this bug, and this is not how it should be. 

They used up to 15.23 before something that worked all the time on 1030 was fixed, I reported it immidately trough the proper channels in June, and I have seen numerous users doing the same, but rather they introduced new functionality instead of fixing it. 

And then there are several navigation issues, like snapping a course to a trail, even if you have turned that off, making it difficult to orient in the forest, together with other issues.

Nice way to put a positive spin on it!  I could have used that back when I was managing development projects. I was a systems engineer my entire career and I can't fathom how Garmin's Sports&Fitness engineering is run/managed.  Obviously (hopefully?) they do a much much better job in the avionics and marine divisions.

I had this bug, too, but it magically disappeared after two weeks or so from one day to the other. I guess with an update at Garmin Connect or in the mobile app. I don't know. I haven't changed anything in my setup, I just waited.
