Firmware 15.23: Bugs and Problems

Firmware 15.23:

The good:

Routing in Germany seems to work now on routes longer than ~30km air distance, calculation does no longer time out.

The odd:

Display shows erratic behavior (menus flickering / switching) during route calculation as if an invisible finger would perpetually select some options. Effect stops after route is calculated.

Clock switches to 12h format after the firmware is installed once and has to be switched back to 24h mode manually.

The bad:

WLAN Connectivity is no longer functional, there are sporadic connects / disconnects. Wi-Fi Sync always results in an error message "Sync failed" (Bluetooth however is not impacted). On the Wi-Fi access point, the device pops up with randomized names shortly and then disappears. (n.b.: no issues with a 1030 in the same WLAN).

Touch screen is sometimes not responsive, esp. the left arrow <--in the top left corner to go back up one menu level sometimes does nothing, may lock up the device because no user input is possible

CIQ Store no longer usable (graphic in lower half of the screen is blackened out).

  • Here are my observations re Wifi Sync with my Edge 1040 Solar, 15.24

    • If Wifi Manual Sync says "sync failed", I press and hold the power button until the device shuts off completely
    • Start up again, then Wifi Manual Sync works
    • Put device to sleep, wake up, Wifi Manual Sync still works
    • Power off device normally (no hard shutdown), Power up, Wifi Manual Sync is broken
    • Same if I connect it to my Mac with USB (which also on disconnect reboots the device)
    • If I then perform the first step in this list, Wifi Sync once again works

Maybe this helps someone get their Sync working again.

  • Short update on this topic.
I have the same issue and if I follow the steps that suggests, I can make it work.
Obviously, I reached out to Garmin's support (in Spain, where I live) and they are checking what the issue might be.

    Two things to point out:
    - I was told that there is no report to Garmin on Wi-Fi issues related to the last software update.
    - The operator is currently checking more in-depth but she believes it to be a hardware issue.

    I will keep you posted.

Upgraded to 17.26 and not surprised at all that Wi-Fi STILL ! gives a “sync fail” message but the good news is that the message lies and both up & downloads still work.
