Firmware 15.23: Bugs and Problems

Firmware 15.23:

The good:

Routing in Germany seems to work now on routes longer than ~30km air distance, calculation does no longer time out.

The odd:

Display shows erratic behavior (menus flickering / switching) during route calculation as if an invisible finger would perpetually select some options. Effect stops after route is calculated.

Clock switches to 12h format after the firmware is installed once and has to be switched back to 24h mode manually.

The bad:

WLAN Connectivity is no longer functional, there are sporadic connects / disconnects. Wi-Fi Sync always results in an error message "Sync failed" (Bluetooth however is not impacted). On the Wi-Fi access point, the device pops up with randomized names shortly and then disappears. (n.b.: no issues with a 1030 in the same WLAN).

Touch screen is sometimes not responsive, esp. the left arrow <--in the top left corner to go back up one menu level sometimes does nothing, may lock up the device because no user input is possible

CIQ Store no longer usable (graphic in lower half of the screen is blackened out).

  • Wi-Fi sync also fails for me. I don't see any of the other problems that you mentioned.

  • Have You tried to install an app from the Connect IQ Store directly on the device, not using the CIQ app on your phone? Does it work from the Edge 1040 directly?

  • Well, for my part the clock is still 24h format and wi fi connection working without problems.( Haven't navigated any courses lately or used  the other features mentioned.)

  • What kind of AccessPoint or Router Type are You using?

  • WLan and 24h format works as expected. Router is Fritzbox 7530 and 7490 as well.

  • Interesting. Fritz!Boxes behave differently from market-standard devices in many ways. Sometimes this special behavior is good, sometimes not so good. Cisco and HP aruba are the market standard for WiFi networking and any device should be at least verified to run with those. At the moment the Edge 1040 firmware behaves like early beta software, however.

  • Hmm, Fritzboxes do comply the same Wifi standard than other routers. There is no „Market Standard“, there is only a IEEE compatibility and no difference between routers. Not in the aspect an Edge would recognize. As you replied, I have verified right now with my neighbors having TP-Link and Netgear routers. With all I do not have any issues.

my guess is you have a single issue with your Edge.

  • This is not the right forum to discuss peculiarities of Wi-Fi Routers. I appreciate checking with TP-Link and providing your feedback. Since device reset did not fix the issues (for me), I will patiently wait for the next firmware update to come and then check again. I doubt that the device is broken as it worked with the previous firmware without this WiFi-Bug. Being curious about an official statement from Garmin, though.

PS: The Connect IQ Store shows some apps, e.g. Trailforks. When I tap on the store it says "Loading Recommended apps" for a few seconds. Then I see Trailforks and Wikiloc Trails in the list. Tapping on either of them just shows a white screen. It's clearly a graphics bug, the buttons are still there but they are invisible. I can tap in the white space to install an app and the next steps then happen on the phone.

  • Can confirm the wi-fi bug. Wi-fi is not working for me as well (Linksys mesh as well as Pixel 7 Pro hotspot)

Sync of a rides doesn't work as well by bluetooth or wi-fi
