High Traffic Alert Notification Not Being Saved to Screen Shots

I tried taking a screen shot of a high traffic alert multiple times, but the notification is omitted from the saved file.

  • I have discocered this to be a most worthless and silly feature. When the alert pops up, I'm already at the intersection and can deduce without assistance whether the street is high traffic or not.

And yesterday, it popped that notification just after I turned off a high traffic road onto a very quiet residential road. It got that one backwards.

I need to see if I can just disable this nonsense.

  • I disabled it too, but notifications used to show up in screen shots!

  • I just disabled it for all my profiles.

I can’t speak to screen shots, since I never take them on my Garmin and have that feature disabled anyway.

  • I was going to go on a rant about Garmin spending resources to add High Traffic notifications instead of a simple button to disable the Varia radar when I'm parked.  The only way to disable the radar right now is to physically turn it off, and when you turn it back on, the light network is gone unless you go into Sensors -> Lights and then disable and re-enable it.  Oh, and fix the light network not resetting when the Varia gets turned back on would be good too.

The other feature that has been missing forever is a way to set the odometer to the actual mileage of your bike for a profile.

But what do we get?  Yet another notification that we have to manually disable on every activity profile.  I personally find all of the notifications distracting and annoying.  I finally even disabled the Strava Live Segments and just configured a page of data fields with Lap Time/Lap Speed/Lap Power that I manually use if I want to rail a segment.

One of the funniest/saddest/funniest things I've seen happen with edge notifications is when my friend's Edge 820 incident detection triggered a false positive after he hopped a curb.  While attempting stop his Garmin from notifying his girlfriend he collided with several soft-hit barriers.  Fortunately, the incident detection didn't cause an incident as he didn't crash.  Joy

All of these half-baked features remind me of the old adage, "The chief cause of problems is solutions.".

That being said, the Edge 1040 Solar is still the best GPS computer of all time.  I just wish Garmin would fix the minor annoyances and stop adding notifications that partially work and potentially cause more harm than good.

  • I don’t feel a need to turn off my Varia radar. However, I have the RTL715. I just leave it running all the time. The battery lasts quite a while: I did a century earlier this fall and the battery lasted the whole time, over seven hours.

  • I only turn it off when I'm at cafes to stop the incessant beeping.  It's not a battery issue.  Yeah, the RTL-515 has roughly 16 hours of battery life if you enable flash mode or disable the light entirely)
