Are riding a course and riding a segment incompatible?

After two weeks testing the millions setup combinations, today I have discovered the reason why the segment page was not activating when I entered into a segment: if you ride a course you cant ride a segment. So, Climb Pro and Segment pages are incompatible.

Don't know if its a bug or Garmin has a good reason to force me to choose between riding a course or a segment, but in this case, they could at least document it in the user manual.and save me a lot of headaches and questions in forums..

And thank goodness they are Garmin Connect segment !!! I imagine that with strava it might be even worse.

You can execute a segment and a course concurrently, but there are restrictions.

If you use Strava segments then the course must be created in Strava and synced across to Garmin Express and then down to the unit. The segments information, start/end points get built into the course file.

If you use Garmin Segments then the course must be created in the Garmin environment.

For now I am only using my own Garmin Connect segments. Then, if I create a course in GC and sync, is it supposed to work? I'll try.

It should include any favorite segments that the lie under the path of the course created in Garmin Connect and then synced to the Edge.

I've found that segments on a Garmin Connect course work fine but if a new segment is added to a road on the course, it is not included. The course has to then be downloaded again to the Edge.
