Loading tracks and routes?

I have created a track with a another app, and also have a large downloaded .gpx track.
But I am a bit lost on how to load it into the 1040.

Do I need to do this from a computer rather than an iPad?

  • There are several ways.

On Computer, connect Edge to computer, then copy the GPX to the /Garmin/NewFiles folder on the Edge. At reboot the Edge will process it.

My preferred workflow is as follow. 1. Importe GPX in Garmin Connect. Can be done on website or with the Connect Mobile app on iPhone. 2. That will result in a route in GC. You can edit it there, add course points if you wish. 3. Then with connect mobile on your phone you can transfer it wirelessly to the Edge like any other route.

  • I had it forget the iPhone, and connected the iPad.
Then I was able to send the courses.

But I then needed to forget the iPad and connect the phone.
The corses are on the Edge now.

  • iPhone is more useful because you can do it while on the move, not needing a Wifi signal. People usually pair their Edge with their phone.
