1040 - A course needed a reroute but the device seems to give up.

I was following a course I created in RideWithGPS. The route is in a very large metropolitan city with heavy car and cycling traffic, but no tall buildings. One of the roads I was on was blocked due to emergency vehicles, so I had to go down a different street. The 1040 tried to reroute me by telling me to turn around a go back.

Then after a few minutes it stopped navigating all together and the map screen looked like I was just doing a free ride with no course - there was no line with chevrons to direct me. I tried reloading the route then the unit crashed and rebooted. After rebooting itself it went back to my activity but I tried to reload the course again and this time it worked. Navigation worked from this point on my ride till I reached my destination.

is there anything I can do to prevent this? My stoppage to figure this out was about 10 minutes and it’s really disappointing in a unit that costs nearly $800.

  • Don’t know it any different. That’s the way every Garmin EDGE I used starts to struggle from time to time. Best way is to disable rerouting and have a look in the map by yourself to get back to your course.
