Unstable Varia Ligth Network and Radar connection

Hello

I have UT800 and RTL510 Varia devices, both which I used with my previous Edge units (1030 and 1030+) without any issues.

Now I paired the Varia devices with my new Edge 1040 (non solar), and when riding I often get a message that the network light and radar got disconnected.

Nevertheless, the radar seems to keep working fine, so the lights, and after a few seconds a message that the light network gets reconnected, so does the radar. This issue repeats several times during a ride.

Also, if I stop (long stop) and decide to save some battery stopping the activity and pressing the power button, then when I restart it (press the power and restart the activity), the light network does not get configured again (Lights and Radar work fine though).

I have the 14.50 firmware on the Edge and the latest on bot Varias.

Is there any recommendation to bypass this problem or just have to wait for it to be solved in a new firmware ?

Thanks !

  • Ok from the start there was an issue if you let the connections import over from your previous devices.  They struggled to connect at all.  The answer was delete the imported ones and start again. I did this and I have both 515 and 800 and they connect and work fine.

Now I wonder if the firmware updates sort of fixed the import but didn’t.  If you haven’t done it the only thing I can suggest is delete them and add them in again from new.

Other option or do also is a full shutdown (power off) and restart.

  • Thanks

I did not import any connections. I re-paired everything from zero in my new 1040.

I know that if I shut it down completely it will break the ongoing activity at that moment, which is something I don't want to do.

Just hoping the problem will be fixed in the next firmware.

  • +1 My radar RTL 515 continues to have an unstable connection. If the Radar has a jolt, about as strong as the bike coming off the curb or bouncing the tire prior to riding, I notice it disconnect and reconnect multiple times before getting stable.  Just another "Garminism"

  • I'm on the beta enrolled and this is a consistent problem with each update. I'd say an hour into every ride, the radar disconnects.

  • I also experience more frequent disconnects of my UT800 and RTL510 than I did with my previous Edge 1030 Bontrager unit. Most of the time when it happens, they will recover their connections after a few seconds and be fine again for awhile. Other times, they will drop/reconnect/drop/reconnect repeatedly anywhere from a few seconds to a minute.

Recently, I was able to correlate my frequent drop/reconnects with a geographic location. It *always* happens to me on one specific section of road that I ride somewhat regularly. It's 100% reproducible on the 1040, but never happened on my 1030. It's not the only place I experience drop/reconnects, but it's the one place I know of where it will always happen. I also lose connection with my HR, power, and speed sensors in the same spot. All will reconnect after I leave that section of road though.

This leads me to believe that there could be radio interference in that area, and perhaps that the Edge 1040 is more sensitive to radio interference overall.

Has anyone else been able to correlate their disconnects with a specific location or area?
