Hi everybody

Connect both to your PC and copy across. Or better: consider using (free) OSM maps.
You probably know but as part of the high purchase price of the 1040 you get world wide cycling maps, all regions, your local region and some others are pre-loaded and the rest via Garmin express on pc or Mac . If your 1030 purchased map was another version it should also be available via express via your account login to Garmin . There can be problems if you have enabled maps with overlapping coverage, best to avoid
This the reply from Garmin:
Dear Leonard,
Thank you for contacting Garmin Technical Support.
It is not possible to transfer the cartography downloaded on your old Edge to the new one as each cartography is valid for a single download on the device and is activated on that particular serial number.
If you need a map for the new Edge, you'll need to purchase a new Download.
I remain at your disposal and in the meantime I send you my best regards
Crazy
If this map has the same copy protection as the current Topo pros the only way (with the official garmin firmware) to get the map transferred is to get a new download code from garmin.
If you still have (you wrote I had a garmin 1030) your old device this could work if you argue with the garmin support on the phone. Technically they can remove the map from your old device in their database and get you a new download code. Best argument would be that your old device is broken. However, if you sold your old 1030 with the map you most likely will not succeed.
