Garmin 1040 multiple bikes setup?

I have used a Garmin 1030 plus for 4 years and want to go to the 1040 as the screen is ghosting around the edges and the battery life is has shortened.

I currently have 5 Look bikes from 2004 to 2020 set up on the 1030, each individually named 386i, 486, 595, 695, 795.  They can range from tri setup, 9 spd, 10 spd, 11 spd with di2, and some have a power meter.  As such, each bike has screens tailored for the bike.  For example, only one has a di2 and battery screen, some have a power screen.  So the different bikes have between 5 and 8 screens to display different data for each bike.

I have looked at the 1040 manual and YouTube videos and I am unsure if can set up these bikes in a similar manner on the 1040.  That is, multiple bike names and individualized display screens for each.  Does anyone have any experience on this subject?

I know that the many different sensors between bikes are not an issue as the 1040 keeps a list of them like the 1030.

Thank you in advance for your time and answers.

  • Does work exactly like on the 1030 plus. So no worries for you.

It is even more comfortable with the 1040 because you can setup your profiles and screens via the Garmin Connect App on your smartphone.

Perhaps one or more profiles are even automatically synced from your 1030 plus device via Garmin Connect. But I would not rely on this.

  • Thank you very much for taking the time to answer my question.   I couldn't imagine that Garmin wouldn't have the same feature in its newest model but it is comforting to know.

  • When you setup your 1040 for the first time it will migrate all your 1030 bike profiles intact. I just did that a couple weeks ago. It will also migrate your sensors, although I found some of my sensors didn't migrate and I had to add them back manually.

  • Thank you very much for adding to my understanding of the Garmin 1040.  The migration of information from the 1030 plus sounds great!
