Wishlist: Discard confirmation button should be on the other side of screen (or autosave activity)

I made a rookie mistake today, stopped the ride, pressed the checkered flag, took the unit off and while holding it in my hand I was also removing my front light to get it charged. I went home and realized my activity is gone.

Turns out that when you "accidentally" press Discard the confirmation button appears in the exact same place, just to be accidentally pressed again.

I know it's not a frequent thing, and having done it once I'll pay more attention, but why isn't there an option to autosave an activity, disable "Discard" button (I can delete activity in Connect), or at least the confirmation button to appear on the other side (and it should be a Yes/No, not Discard/Save again where pressing No, would show back the discard/save options - then you could either accidentally save, or get stuck in an infinite loop of pressing Discard->No)

(it was 44km - I only recovered 33 of it partially, because even though I immediately powered off, some log file wrote over the activity file)

Consider it my "feature request", but if you have helpful tips, I'm open to suggestions (I'll now save the trip before removing the unit as long as I remember)

  • in 19.13 there was a second step with the same format of the discard/save buttons, but now in 19.15 the second step has a different format - which is definitely an improvement.

wonder how this will hold when there are drops of water on the screen. the Discard and X buttons are in the same place pretty much.

I still think a physical button press would be better

  • Having the X over the Discard at least means if you're accidentally activating that area of the screen it'll cancel the discard, but yeah I'd much rather have "press start button to confirm discard." Kind of like two factor authentication: touch screen tap to start the discard process with physical button press to confirm it. At least they're looking at this issue!

  • ah, yes they are on other sides as you say.
X is somewhat confusing as in UI design X often means delete. "No"  and "Yes" would be clearer. Or at least have the destructive action with some red color.

  • I completely agree with you! The wording and X and check mark had me read it several times to not make a mistake and I was praying while trying to figure it out on a ride I fat fingered the discard button on the first page. Yikes! That should not be the case.

Also, given that the save is on the right and easiest for most people to select automatically from muscle memory, the discard function needs to be on the left.

I'm still confused with the current method - it seems like you would press the check mark to delete / discard the ride. That would be very easy to do since the save on the prior page is in that same spot. Definitely use words as it's completely unclear with the new interface.

I really wish the default was to save all activities automatically and the ability to delete rides later via another memory. I virtually never want to delete an activity (other than leaving GPS on in car after a ride). There is nothing worse than losing my ride data due to a poor user interface and not auto-saving activities for later deletion if needed.

Happy to see thy are trying but this last update with the X and check are very confusing.

  • Great improvement to move/swap positions. Agree Yes/No would be clearer.
