garmin fenix 5 and garmin edge 1040 training loads are different

I recently bought Garmin Edge 1040.  The training loads and exercise loads are different between both devices yet all the activities are showing on both devices.  I have physio trueup turned on.  Does anyone know why and how I can fix it?  Also the VO2 max is different between Connect App, Edge and Fenix (3 different results).

Is there a reason and a solution?

tks

  • Same issue, Edge 1040 Solar, Edge 530, Fenix 7 Solar

  • I have posted the issue in the beta forums each time a new version is released.

I'll install the new alpha and if problem persists I'll post it again

  • Sorry, I'm not sure I understand. Will I need to do anything?

  • No. There is no actual solution. Just wait if Garmin fixes it with next firmwares. Sorry.

  • Unfortunately, the Fenix 5 has several older training metrics, that aren't fully compatible with the training metrics on the 1040.

Note that there are separate running and cycling VO2Maxes - the watch and GC display running by default, although cycling can be viewed as well. Note also that the 1040 calculates VO2Max with heat acclimation, a feature which is not included on the F5.

About the only suggestion I have is to make sure your devices are synced twice, to ensure that the metrics on the device and GC are fully aligned.

  • Thanks for the information.  Are there any watches that work seamlessly with the Edge 1040?

I assume that Garmin won't upgrade the Fenix 5 to increase it's compatibility?

  • It's not the Fenix 5. In my case and many others are the epix2 or fenix 6 or 7.

Garmin is redefining the trueup feature so till it's finished(I hope this year) same will happen.

For example, actually my epix2 and Edge 1040 with latest software(beta and alpha respectively) show same acute load but while epix2 tells me high load, edge tells me optimal one. And while the total is the same, anaerobic, high and low aerobic load are different on each device.

Same HR and power zones on both. Everything well configured.

  • My Fenix 7 and Edge 1040 display the same stats now. My old Fenix 5 Plus would display differing stats from my Edge 1030. It seems the latest gen devices are jiving, at least in my case.

  • I have f6x-pro and e530 which are abt the same generation and training load numbers/graphs are different in connect.

A stranger thing is I had two consecutive rest days (Mon-Tue) and just noticed in Connect that the training load has stayed same for Edge but decreased for Fenix (as it should be).

No idea what’s going on here.

Just wondering when you last synced your 530?

As a smart watch, your F6X is continously powered on and syncing regularly with GC so the load stats are regularly updated, but your Edge 530 has been powered off over the 2 rest days and hasn't synced. (I'm making some assumptions here about common usage patterns).

Note that it can take up to 2 syncs for the devices and GC to all line up.
