I don't have a 1040, but according to this thread, not an option directly from the edge - Reverse courses - routes - Edge 1040 Series - Cycling - Garmin Forums
You would need to do it from Garmin Connect Web or the app.
Thank you for your answer, but reading the topic carefully the feature does not exist on my android application or does not work.
However, this morning I found a solution that was not perfect, but which would have helped me in spite of everything yesterday to follow the course in the opposite direction.
So instead of reversing the route (feature that I can't find on the edge 1040 or garmin connect android app)
I activated in the parameters of the course "display always", it has the advantage of displaying the track to follow it.
However, this is only the track, so there will be no associated navigation functionality, nor the orientation arrows of the direction of travel.
That's a feature I use with some regularity; just display the course on the map and follow it without Nav. I find it particularly useful mtbing. I'll usually remove the display always option on the course after the ride so that I don't wind up with too many entangled courses being displayed.
