Down to 6% Battery Charge

My non-solar Edge 1040 arrived at my local bike shop in late August. I charged it fully at that time.  It reached 6% battery level after today's ride, after a total of 50 hours of riding.  I have my GPS set to the multi-band GNSS level, which is supposed to reduce battery life.  But 50 hours is comparable to the life of my Edge 1030 Plus, which I have run for 52 hours a couple of times.

No doubt some of you, like me, have been using Garmin Edge units for several model generations.  I started with the 705, and had the 800, 1000, 1030, and 1030 Plus.  Realistically, battery life ceased to be an issue with the 1030, unless you were going to do rides longer than a day.  In that case, the highly overpriced External Battery Pack took care of the next day or more.  The 1030 Plus added another several hours of battery life, and the Edge 1040 looks to be better yet.  I know that Garmin seems to be somewhat weak on software, but they've really learned to provide good hardware!

  • After today's ride, the Edge 1040 battery is at 7%.  It's been 32 days since I charged it back up to 100%.  I changed the GPS setting to "Balanced" (Multi-Band GNSS), and I've ridden 56 hours, 28 minutes, so about 6 hours longer than the previous charge.

I'll try simple GPS next time.
