Power Guide Guidance is not Accurate

I created a power guide using the Connect App (routes and power guides were stuck loading when I tried using the Connect web site).  All went well and then I sent the power guide to the device. I rode the power guide yesterday and missed my 1 hour target badly.  Reviewing everything this morning, I noticed the devices have different power guides for the route!  Also, the FTP was wrong but should have still given me a power guide that was better.

The FTP is set to 263 although my devices show my FTP as 260. Where did the 263 come from for the guide? On the phone, the estimated time is about 1 hour.  On the Edge, the estimated completion time is 1 - 2 hours. Why do the devices and the web site show different exertion levels (84% vs 77% of FTP) even after I sync??  Why are the completion times so far off? I would need to do 24.5 MPH to finish a course 24.5 miles long in about an hour.

The web and app plans say 84% of FTP and the Edge shows 77% of FTP - 221W to finish in about an hour

The Edge says 77% of FTP - 203W to finish in 1-2hrs.

Well, I averaged 250W which is 95% of FTP and I was still nowhere close to finishing in 1hr.

So:

1. where did 263 for FTP come from when all 3 sources have my FTP as 260?

2. can we do a specific time for finishing a route or averaging a specific speed for the ride. Currently, we can only use the slider for effort.

3. the calculations for estimated finish time appear to be off by at least 25%

4. why are the plans different on the app, web, and Edge device

Thanks in advance for your help.

  • No feedback from Garmin...

I have very same observations: this feature (as all other new features in 1040) is basically useless. Advertised as replacement for BestBikeSplits turned out to be just an useless gimmick.

    Regards

  • It is not intended to replicate or replace BestBikeSplit. It has a very different focus.

It is not trying minimize your course time, but rather it is intended to provide guidance to people new to riding with power  so that they can complete a course. It is designed to make sure you do not over exert yourself and that you can complete the course.
