Minimise distance routing not working

Hi, when I ask the Garmin to make a route on the fly it chooses an incredibly long way around. I’m currently trying to use it to navigate across the globe so it would be very helpful if it didn’t keep trying to make me do 200km instead of 50km! I have the routing set at minimise distance.

Note that you can't have multiple routing maps that overlap.

that is garmin's labeling of their SinGaporMalaYsiaVietNanPHilippines map. no overlap to U.S. map.

All Garmin maps.

only some 'custom' jpg overlays in custom_maps but disabled

The jpg maps don't have routing information.

yes, they were just some heatmaps and mtb trails from park maps. some of them crash the edge 1000, so disabling avoids that. should not impact this guilford-new haven routing - bit i will try removing them altogether at some point.
