Edge 1040 sensor drop outs

I bought an edge 1040 solar when it first came out.  like many people my edge 1040 had sensor drop outs.  On September 1st this year I did a factory reset including data on the device.  I then had the edge 1040 have software completely updated on September 1st 2022 using Garmin's express app on my computer; I added NO apps.  Then I went for an ~1 hour ride had several sensor (Garmin rally pedals and Garmin HR strap) drop outs during the ride.  Maybe I have a bad unit, what can I do to stop the dropouts?  I am going back to my Garmin edge 1030 so I don't experience these dropouts.  Please help?

  • Edge 1040. 9 months later and no fix is born.

I paid $600 for this. Latest fw, 17.29 and it drops out 1min into the ride. All sensors connect (garmin speed, hrm, stages power) you start a ride and ALL drop 58s into the ride. Sometimes a connect request to a known sensor in the list works, but the only sure fix is to stop the ride, power unit fully off and reboot.

Seems a firmware issue, some rogue memory leak or such, as a full reboot before each ride seems effective in avoiding the abort and restart at the curb.

Under warranty, so i will exchange units until i get a luckier one, just in case it is hardware dependent.

Edge 1000, on same rides, when rode woth both, never had the issue. Come think of it, the 1000 never ever had sensor dropouts.

  • Has it been fixed and stayed fixed for you?  I get dropouts on 17.29.
Only "fix" seems to perform a full reboot of the unit before each ride. going into sleep seems to set up for the problem.

  • Same problem here and it's seriously starting to tire me that after all this time there is still no solution found!

  • For my device and the connected devices the issue is fixed. Hopefully it does not come again.
