Varia RTL-515 Radar Light Fails to Automatically Reconnect if the Edge 1040 Enters Sleep Mode

This has been a problem for quite some time.  If the Edge 1040 goes into sleep mode, when it wakes up, it automatically reconnects to the radar sensor for the RTL-515, but not the light.  This has been an issue on every Edge and Varia unit I've ever owned (Edge 1000, Edge 1030, Edge 1030 Plus, Edge 1040 Solar, RTL-500, RTL-510, RTL-515).

    Not only varia, I cannot connect HRM-Pro or other sensor after going to sleep mode and waking it after

    I must turn it off and turn it on again

    Today, I turned off the RTL-515 while at a coffee shop, and when I turned it back on, the light didn't reconnect at all.  My Edge 1040 didn't even go into sleep mode.

    This is a repeatable issue with Edge 1040 update 14.20.  I just rolled back to 12.16 and that fixed it.  I have been on the phone with Garmin for 3 days and they seem clueless.  Tested between Edge 520, 1030, and 1040, as well as Varia 510.  Only difficulty was with 1040 and 515.

    The light + radar pairing has always been problematic.  In 12.16, disabling and re-enabling the light network didn't reconnect the light for me.  With 14.20, the light network can be recreated manually if disable and then re-enable the entire light network.  The weird thing is that if manually cycle the light network, the mode selected on the Edge 1040 isn't applied to the RTL-515 as the light returns to the default mode.

    Interesting.  I did have some issues with 12.16 before the 14.20 update, but could usually resolve them with a power cycle on the Edge.  14.20 shut down the RTL515 light connection completely, something that three days of troubleshooting (waste of time!) with Garmin techs couldn't solve. Its not like Garmin is a new company just starting out! ANT+ connectivity should be automatic and solid by now.  Just sayin'

    Hoyboy...Garmin finally sent me a replacement 515...everything worked again.  And the one they replaced was a couple of years old.  It worked today with 15.23.  I think there must have been different production runs of the 515.  Hope this helps.

    I had that happen too.  My previous RTL-515 wouldn't connect at all.  Garmin replaced it. 

    But the main point of this post is that the light network fails reset itself when my Edge 1040 enters sleep mode and then wakes back up.  This been a problem FOREVER and it's still a problem in 15.23.  The radar sensor connects right away though

    I have the same problem.

    When I stop the activity (since I will make a long stop) and the Edge goes to sleep, when I wake it up and resume the activity the Varia RTL510 wont connect automatically.

    Note: The Edge 1040 (15.24) and the Varia (3.7) have the latest firmware installed.

    After i have updated the 1040 Solar to 15.23 all sensor gone nuts.

    RTL510 connect and disconnect every few minutes, UT800 fail to connect, Polar Verity Sense work in Bluetooth mode only, Stages power meter connect and disconnect with the RTL510 once every few minutes.

    A total mess. My ride was a nightmare.
