Edge 1040 not syncing automatically with Garmin Connect.

Garmin Edge 1040 is not syncing automatically with Garmin Connect app on iPhone 12. It is also not syncing through wifi. I removed it from Bluetooth devices list but it doesn't help. Each time I want to sync my activities or any other data I need to open manually Garmin Connect and press sync button.

Is it even possible to automatically and seamlessly sync data between Garmin Connect platform (app and web) and Edge 1040?

  • Do a hard reset. Hold the power button until the unit restarts.  This also happened on my 1030 very regularly.  Does sometimes on the 1040 but a lot less.  The hard reset usually works. 

  • Yes, hard power off and on seems to be a reliable "workaround". But from a flagship device I'd expect seamless syncing experience... Expressionless NB: on 1030 it was working _almost always_. On 1040 it almost always it doesn't...

  • Mine won’t automatically sync with this latest version also.  Sw14.20.  

    Did an indoor ride today and it sync'd.  It might only be outdoor rides.

  • Mine has been working and syncing fine till Fridays ride. the only difference was, i had gone away in the van with bike, so ride didnt finish at home. when i got home i was expecting it to sync with connect when it connected to home wi-fi. it didnt, tried manual sync and power off, still no joy. not sure what to try next.

  • Turn off both Bluetooth and Wifi. Then turn back on. That sometimes kicks it off. I think this is something to do with it having the option to do either directly with wifi or Ivan Garmin connect on a phone via Bluetooth.  Sometimes it seems to get confused and stop. I’ve seen it before also when travelling when I normally do a sync via wifi at home. 

    Other than that a hard reset after doing that can kick it off.  You can also go into the activity and ask it to upload but with all models I’ve found that a bit hit and miss. 

  • its very annoying still happens everytime with my Sony Xperia. 

  • Having the same issue, is it an OS issue, I'm on Android.
