Routing problems

Hello.

I use 1040 solar, FW 12,16.

I went for a ride and i use a road profile.

I try to search a market and go to it.

15 KM to it.

The navigation try to route me to a route that include gravel road even paralel to it is a asphalt road.

It give me informations to go on a detour route which is not related to reality.

I guess that is more to work on the software.

P.S.

The route settings are correct.

  • Mine did that until I spotted the “routing mode” … mine had “mixed surface” !

  • Similar issue yesterday,

    1040 Solar, 17.29; latest Garmin Maps;

Routing Settings: Popularity Routing ON; Profile: Road Cycling; min. Ascent; Avoidance: Toll, Unpaved, Ferries, Narrow = ON=Green; Major & High Traffic = OFF

Wanted to go back to start, was approximately 20km from start away, several different roads (primary and secondary highways, cycling ways) Edge routed me over a unpaved road …..

    How can I avoid this?

What is wrong on my settings?

  • What therevokid said. What's your "Routing Mode"?

  • What is wrong on my settings?

Hi mutnig the problem is the setting "Major Highways" this means paths suitable for bicycles, not highways (for automobiles)
Activate this option and you will also be guided to bicycle roads

  • Hi, I would like to ensure NOT to be send to unpaved roads - but this was the case last time.

I would accept some additional riding time, but to stay on paved ways.

  • NOT to be send to unpaved roads

then you have to disable "Unpaved Roads"
but leave "Major Highways" enabled - because these are "bike lanes"

  • my setting was "Items to Avoid": "Unpaved Roads" is green so I assume: no unpaved roads to be used.

Major Highways is not marked (=black) I assume major highways can be used.

  • Hi

Of course you have to find what you like on your own. Please read the article in the Openmtb, which applies analogously to everything.
    Road Type Avoidances
NEVER Tick "Avoid Highways" - It will block the best ways. On my maps, shared use pathes and cycleways are encoded for the GPS as highways. Real highways or big streets where cycling is not allowed are not routable anyhow with the Openmtbmaps (so no need to avoid them).
Major Highways: If you tick it you will avoid streets that are nice for cycling, cycleways, cyclepaths, and so on. Well as you want to cycle with this map, I don't think you ever want to tick that box.
Unpaved roads: If you are a XC biker, then yes, try activating it. All ways with mtb:scale=1 or higher are blocked, as well as sac_scale = T2 or higher

  • Hi peggatsch,

I did not use openmtb maps, used standard Garmin maps.

on my screenshots above you can see my settings - as far as I understand I had forgotten the use of unpaved roads, by setting Avoid Unpaved Roads, but I was routed via an unpaved road.

Question is: how to make sure not to be send to an unpaved road?
