Screen reacts without touching it in dry weather conditions

Hi guys,

I've seen the following now for a month or so on my Edge 1040. Upfront I mention that this is happing during dry weather conditions (clouded or sunny weather) !

During a ride the screen of my Edge reacts spontaneously as if it is touched but it is clearly not. Sometimes the screen goes from a training screen back to the 'timer overlay' screen (as it is called in the manual). Sometimes the data fields on a training screen are changed (behaviour of a long press on the screen) randomly.

Clearly I'm not touching it. There is no water or moist of some kind that triggers the screen. It happens only during a ride, not while the Edge is lying steady on a table. It happens on a random time into the ride. Sometimes after 15 minutes, sometimes after 1 hour into a ride. It starts usually with a single fictive screen press, getting worse over time during the ride.

I have to lock the screen to prevent the screen going crazy or from messing up the data fields of my training screen.

Today I made a small movie of this behaviour. It is a bit shaky because I have to do this while riding.

In this case the edge is switching back to the ' timer overlay' screen as if the screen is tapped.

Is this a hardware malfunction or is this a (known) bug? I can't find anything about this on this forum.

I'm on firmware 12.16

Can anyone help me with this issue? Has anyone seen this too?

Jack
