Heart rate lag

Hi,

on my 1040 I see everytime I ride a heart rate lag on the display. In the beginning the heart rate is the actual heart rate but after a few minutes the heart rate lags behind. Maybe the same lag as the grade lag, but I don't know. The lag can also be seen in the .files. Also I have tested the 1040 against my Edge 530 and there you can see clearly that this is not as supposed. I have attached a photo of this behavior where you can see the power and heart rate graph. Power is connected to my Indoor trainer and heart rate is coming from a Garmin heart rate strap, connected over BLE to both units. On the 530 (upper unit) you can see that the heart rate rises every time I kick the pedals and apply power. But on the 1040 (lower unit) this heart rate rise lags clearly behind and I don't know why. Is this maybe a known bug or discovered anyone else this behavior? I'm on firmware 12.16.

Maybe you have some ideas here. Thanks in advance!

In general , like our spinning coach said, you have 20 "free seconds" when you put the pressure (power) on , before the HR will indrease, that is how the body works. It might not be what you are seeing, but worth remembering.

I know what you mean but the HR graph goes up on the 530 and lags behind on the 1040. So I think this is a bug on the 1040.

Sure the HR can‘t go up immediately but it goes much faster up on the 530 then on the 1040. And look at the humps on both units, they are simply time shifted.

Today I connected the HR strap over ANT+ to the Edge and now the HR displays as it should be. Before it was over BLE so I think there is a bug on this connection type.

I don’t think it’s a bug. I get the same when my PM is connected via BLE. The ANT+ connections seem to be more precise.

And why does the 530 work correctly with BLE and the 1040 not? I think in this regard it must be a bug or otherwise the 530 is better at connecting stuff over BLE.

I agree it's a bug. BT latency is a small fraction of a second, so in itself can't be responsible for this amount of lag.

Would you mind sharing what model of HRM it is?

It is the actual HRM-Dual from Garmin. But I noticed this behavior yesterday also with my WHOOP strap, and this one is only connectable over BLE, so I don‘t have the option to switch to ANT+ for better accuracy.
