Go back to nonbeta?

On v14.14 beta.

Just had a horrific sutuation.

Not sure if was a corrupt. Gpx file or the beta.

Can i go back to the ast known released version for 1040?

If so what number was it?

How do i get it?

Will it replace my beta or do i have to delete a file?

Thanks

Barry

  • Yes, 12.16, It is in the 14.14 distribution zip, called GUPDATE_1216.GCD, you place it in the /Garmin directory, change name to GUPDATE.GCD and reboot, it will wipe your settings but you might be able to restore via GCM (perhaps but some things will be missed).

Read the 14.14 install instructions especially with regard to regressing back to a previous version, good luck, have a looks at support articles re backing up and restoring settings but these might have been supercided with the 1040 and the GCM "Real time settings"??

PS might be better , less hassle to stay with 14.14 and transfer courses via GCM or Wi-Fi on the 1040, maybe a bad GPX??

  • Hi Barry,

can you explain the problem situation?

  • sure. beta 14.14 all was good for beta 14.13 and 14.14 for the first day. loaded .gpx file, did route all good. then yesterday loaded another .gpx file that someone sent me, plugged in 1040 to Mac, Mac saw it, put the file in the NEW folder and it totally screwed up the garmin. It was 100% stuck on the "loading courses, maps," etc screen. NO way around it, no holding for 10 seconds, powering down and up, plug into wall, nothing would get it past the loading screen. Made me think if it was the gpx file or the beta, BUT was truly at a loss, could not believe this unit which I had 5 days and was near perfect had no way for me to delete the .gpx file b.c the computer would not even see it- this was the worst part. Tried PC, Mac, everything. The computer will not see it until AFTER the loading screen.

Anyway, after 90 minutes at 1am, I got the crazy directions on what to do (on garmin page) to get around this and it has to do with starting, holding lap button and this gets around the loading courses screen (said LOADER up top so knew we were getting somewhere- this allowed the Mac to see the garmin, went to NEW folder, deleted out all and worked again. NO loss of anything- all screens in tact. BUT I did not try to load a route since b/c I had to ride today and did not want to happen again.

Going to try adding some routes now to see if the beta or not. Maybe I'll stay away from .gpx and use another format?

  • I was hoping to stay on 14.14 as well.

I was wondering if transferring route files to the 1040 via wifi using the connect app vs plugging into the Mac is a way better way to add the files to the 1040?

Also is the .gpx format the best? there seems to always be a few choices when someone sends me the strava file.

    Thanks!

  • Did you ever wonder that gpx can be broken?

If you copy files via cable, you can aleays have a risc when you disconect your device

If you have strava why in earth do you ever use gpx (i use this method 12 years ago)

  • I think I need to go away from this whole method of plug in to Mac- you are right. I can just star it in strava and then it goes to the app and appears on the 1040 right?

ok sold, BUT let me ask you (or anyone)...

Sometimes someone posts a ride but they did NOT make it in strava, they used Ride With GPS, so I had to export the .gpx RWGPS file on my computer , plug in 1040 and put in new folder.

can you please tell me how you add a RWGPS file to the 1040 wirelessly?

    thanks

    Barry

  • yes, I feel like when I disconnected the 1040 from the Mac that is what set the problem to happen.

  • I got it! I had to connect my garmin connect Acct to the rwgps- never knew this for years.

    thanks!

    tested and works-

    no more cords!!!

    Barry

  • welcome to 2022 Slight smile

Strava and all sites have implemented also better functionality to transfer with just one tap routes, without any Iq app

for the future if someone share GPX with you , you can open with GC from your mobile, then from GC will sync to your Garmin

  • yah I never really saw all the functionality of GC until I got the 1040.

I just wish I could clean up the side bar of choices, no golf etc. Hate the UI
