PLEASE, any help tonight (1040 bricked?)

I cannot believe this,

Have had my 1040 solar for 5 days.

Working pretty great

Have the Beta 14.14 on it.

Was working fine today with a route loaded.

Plugged into my Mac tonight and it saw it, I added a new .gpx file to it and THAT's IT, bricked!

stuck on loading courses screen, no way around it at all; held down power, plugged in, tried it all, computer does not see it and there is no way around the loading.

Working on this 1 hour and was planning on riding tomorrow. I have no computer.

Sold my 1030, feel like crying right now.

Any suggestions from anyone?

Try forcing it into mass storage mode as per:

It was not easy but it worked!! it actually worked.

90 minutes and a bit of luck.

1am , cannot believe we got it. Do you think it was the BETA 14.14 or the .gpx that caused this? I think the file as I had put on 1 other .gpx the day before on the beta and all was fine.

I am going to add some new strava files now to see if happens again.

is .gpx format the best one? Maybe I need to use a different format!

the best thing to do, is to let garmin know by filling the form that is included with the beta, following all their instructions, including the gpx indeed, folder name were you put it, etc; so they can reproduce and fix it.

I strongly suggest to not experiment that much for those reasons :

- the time you spend trying to troubleshoot, won't end with a fix. Better invested time by reporting it so garmin can fix it

- if there is any corruption of any kind, and that it brick it deeper... you'll be very angry :)

with that said, your call on what to do next ;)

I’m not a 1040 user, but there would have been many installs of 14.14 so it’s not highly likely to have been the cause. GPX, TCX and Fit should all happily load too. What was the source of the GPX file? Had it been manually edited? Perhaps see if it opens correctly in another editor such as BaseCamp.

I agree, not the beta, prob the .gpx file. the source was a weird ride leader who I would not be surprised if the file was messed up OR it it was when I plugged the 1040 into my Mac and unplugged it which froze it. I am not longer using my Mac to get the file to the 1040- doing wiresly!
