1040 and Radar VARI RTL515

I dont have a scenario for it yet, but there is something very frustrating going on between to two devices.

My normal process is to switch on the Garmin, and then start switching on the sensors, usually the Radar first; which i switch to daylight flash (exdtends battery)  and then attach to the bike. Then its DI2 and pedals (calibrate power) and off we go.

I often notice that the light on the radar unit as swithed off, so i reset it,  and then later during the ride i notice that is has switched mode off daylight flash to permanently on.

When and how i don't know, but i kills the battery

can fin anything in the settings,  is this a bug  or have i missed soemthing.

I suspect it may be something to do with auto pause

Julian

EDIT

After more testin i found that

A bit more testing, and i fount that after a couple of auto pause it goes in to peloton mode.

  • Check the sensor settings in your 1040. They may be set to turn the light on once an activity starts, in which case they will switch off once the network is formed.

There are lots of settings to tinker with in the sensors>lights menu, and you can also set up a swipe down widget to control lights. Regardless of how you set your light before you connect it, it will do whatever the settings are set to once it connects to the 1040. I usually have mine set to "Auto" for the network, and have no issues with battery duration for rides of less than 6 hours.

  • Thanks for that.

, a couple of questions;  "you can also set up a swipe down widget"  how do you do this, i could not find it.

unfortunately i need 14+ hours (ultra endurance) i have 2 one chaging whils the other is working

  • "you can also set up a swipe down widget"  how do you do this

    Menu > System > Widgets

Get a solar, or a Garmin power pack, or connect to a battery bank via the USB?

Forget that last one. I forgot that it's the Varia battery life you're trying to extend, not the 1040. Not sure if the USB power supply might still be a viable option though? Worth a try?

  • Found the widget, - silly me

Yes it the varia battery , tha i am concerned with preserving.

and yes is s 20,000 battery pack that keep my going for a few days.

The reaon i moved to the 1040 was the new longer life battery, and the solar.  this aspect i am very please with.
