Battery edge 1040 solar draining completely after shut down

I am having the same issue with my Edge 1040 Solar. I was hoping to find a solution here but I see nothing! Help!!!!

I’m in contact with Garmin. There is a workaround for this issue. When putting the edge of keep pushing the power button. Do not release until the system is completely down. Then at the end you get a power of symbol. I think it is around 15 seconds holding the button. This works for me. Garmin is searching out of this is a software issue or hardware.

I had the same issue - fully charged, pressed the side button until the Power Options shows and then press the red Power off button. Next morning it would not start and I thought the side button may be broken, however, I plugged it in and the battery was totally flat, but functioned again when recharged.

Since then I have noticed that sometimes I can press the red on screen power off button, the Power icon shows on the screen and will not go off unless I press and hold the side button for 10 to 20 seconds after which the screen blanks with a random black line against a grey background before going off or rebooting. I assume that if I left it with the power icon showing, it will run the battery down due to some background process and will then go off when the battery is flat in a few hours.

I have been in touch with Garmin, who are arranging an exchange. 1040 non-solar

I am also getting that grey screen with the black line through the screen when I hold the power button 10 to 20 seconds or so. Not sure what that’s all about. What did Garmin say about it may I ask? Must not be good if Garmin is going to give you an exchange. I think I might have to call them as well!

That is why I returned my 1040 Solar and exchanged it for a base 1040.  I would charge the unit to 100% at night and then the next day, I would have some amount of battery lost overnight with the unit POWERED OFF !  OFF is OFF and the unit should not lose any percentage of battery capacity. 

On a related note, today I rode 170 Km and the 1040 (non-Solar) was in full navigation mode (i.e. Course selected). At the end of my ride, the 1040 was down to 90% battery. So 6 hours later of GPS use, it only lost 10% battery capacity.  The 1040 is very efficient and fundamentally, there is no need for a 1040 Solar, especially when the screen of the 1040 is brighter and better than the Solar...

I have the same problem. In most cases when I press the side button and then the red button (power off or so) it stays on with the power symbol (hard to see as the background light is switch off then). This then drains the battery. As I use the device often, I know decided to not shut it down, but just let the device sleep to avoid draining it completely. I hope this bug gets fixed soon.
Edit: I am on Firmware 12.16, at the time of writing this, this is the newest release (but there are newer Betas around, which I do not want. I feel like a product tester enough already without the beta firmware).

Maybe you are on to something. Reason why I say this is the fact that I have always turn my Edge 1040 Solar off during the brightness of day. That was until two nights ago when I turned it off during night time. My room was not nearly as bright. My unit has been off for 48 hours and when I turned it off it was at 99% battery level. I just turned it on a minute ago and 48 hours later it’s still 99% battery level. It really makes me wonder if that could be the problem. By the way, the Solar intensity level was at 0 when I shut it down.
