Not connecting to WIFI with hidden SSID

Hi!

I'm facing WIFI problems with my new brand 1040 Solar version.

The device is not able to connect to hidden SSID networks. I have the old 830 and is connecting to the same hidden SSID with no problems, but the 1040 can't.

1040 is only able to connect to the SSID if I make this WIFI network visible again. In case you wonder: I cannot leave this SSID visible as this is a business WIFI

Why is this issue in this new brand device whilst older versions can?

thanks in advance

  • Hi, i sadly cannot help you by connection your edge 1040 to a hidden ssid, i can only comment on your ssid situation.

hiding a ssid does not provide any security. every client in the vicinity can log air traffic and once a device connects to the hidden ssid, that ssid will be broadcasted as plain text and can be stored and is known to that person.

until garmin fixes the bug you could make that ssid visable or create a 2nd one to have the edge connect to it or use the phone to sync the edge

  • Officially Hidden SSID are not supported on any Garmin device.  On some devices it may work, but is not supported.
