Edge 1040 Solar Asia unable to update to firmware 12.16

Hi, need help here:

  1. Since the 1st update to firmware 12.15 when I received my Edge 1040 Solar Asia, my unit never received the 12.16 update either from Garmin Express or wifi, any work around on this?
  2. Tried to perform manual update with the latest 14.12, after copy the GCD file to \Garmin, nothing happen.
  3. Further tried 14.12 GCD with bypass backup update method (hold the lap button & power on until enter USB mode), when the unit showing progress bar to update firmware, pop up the message fail to update GCD.
  4. After (3), my unit no longer able to perform factory reset via the system menu (both reset options).
  5. Now my unit take longer time than usual to enter the USB mode when plug to my computer, sometime even after few boot loop (enter normal interface --> restart --> enter normal interface and so on) for few times then only enter the USB mode.
  6. My unit still able to power up normally, lock GPS & view the past history etc.

Any advise here?

    They are not yet released for APAC devices.

    Thanks for the info, it would be better if Garmin can spell out clearly in the installation instructions. 

    BTW, how to hard reset the device without pressing the reset option in the system menu? 

    I'll do a clean reset and restore my backup data.

    That’s because Garmin provides false and untrue information on this forum.  On the one hand they sell units simply as ‘Edge 1040 Solar’ without any indication of regional differences.  Then they make announcements on this website about new software availability.  It’s only after checking with their customer service and them double checking with their tech team that they discover that they are in fact having regional differences.  When suggesting that they should make such info clear and certainly not make statements like software being available without caveats, there is no action.  Please keep alerting everyone online how Garmin lies and omits essential information in their public announcements.

    У меня garmin 1040 edge я привез его из Испании в Россию, может это как-то влияет на установку 12.16??? Два дня назад появлялась надпись на устройстве что можно обновить до 12.16 , но обновление не происходило после нажатия , а выключался экран и выбрасывало опять к сообщению об обновлении , потом пропало и я не понимаю где мне опять найти это и попробовать обновить . Это мой первый опыт с garmin и пока только негативные эмоции. Кривой и замороченный интерфейс непонятный интуитивно, исправьте и чихайте обратную связь

    Also just a heads up - sounds like you were trying to update the beta firmware (14.12?) but it would apply with the general firmware files as well I presume - that you shouldn't use ROW firmware on an APAC device (or vice versa). Have seen this repeated in other forum posts. This is likely due to any regulatory differences that may be impacting the APAC devices in particular or could be a case of the language localization. It's my first time with an APAC device so very keen to see the timelines of the firmware releases - might actually result in offloading this device and getting a ROW. But had bought it for the Japan maps that are only available in the APAC model (for navigation, on the fly routing and POI searching)
