When using the map,
The +- buttons for zooming in and out and the hand symbol remain visible and are very distracting.
In Edge 830, they disappeared after a certain time.
Can this be improved?

I actually like this change. You can now zoom in/out with only one touch of the screen because the zoom buttons are always active. As the OP said, on the x30 units, the +/- buttons disappeared after a while, you would therefore have to tap the screen to wake it up / get the buttons back before then touching a zoom button. With the 1040, I've noticed that the +/- buttons are always active, so zooming in can be done more quickly with only one screen touch.
An even better option would be to have external buttons for zoom in/out. This could be achieved using the customizable buttons on Di2 levers or the Edge remote. Unfortunately, I've made that request on this forum several times in the last 5 years and it's always been ignored.
Until we get external zoom buttons, I'm happy for the on-screen buttons to be permanently active. The icons being shown on the screen is not distracting for me.
I also like this change. Much easier to zoom in and out.
But (correct me if wrong, I don't have one yet), don't you still need two / three taps on screen, if activity is running the first tap on the screen brings up the "timer overlay" and needs another tap to make the map screen active again so that a third tap on the +/- zooms? For example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C8LiOdbnaW8&t=90 (VeloGPS 1040 Navigation demo), thanks
Only one tap is needed now. And one tap to the map arrow switches map orientation mode - I like this very much also. Second tap is only needed if navigation was paused.
