This was a common “feature” on my 1030. I do hope we are not seeing the return of it on the 1040. One of the reasons I got the 1040 over the 1030 was I was getting annoyed at the amount of times this happened.
Are you 100% sure you powered it off?
Is it possible you just put it to sleep?
Any chance there was a power off screen stuck on the display? I had that happen a few weeks ago and the battery was drained. I had to do a soft reset to power it off. After it was recharged, everything worked fine again.
The 1030 used to turn itself on by itself for some reason and then stay stuck on.
Speaking of which I last checked the 1030 a week ago and it was at about 80% and on standby. Turn it on today, it does it’s on full reboot all by itself and the battery is at 2%.
Seriously I trust the 1040 doesn’t start doing the same. It is a very annoying “feature” of an otherwise usable 1030 (oh apart from the broken mount - another 1030 feature). At least it doesn’t have the power button breaking “feature” of the 1000.
I'm experiencing the same problem with my Edge 1040 Solar. I turn it off with the battery loaded and one or two days later, the battery has completely drained. This has happened to me twice. The first time I thought I might not have properly turned off the device but then, I paid attention to make sure it went off. Yet, it happened again. I'm using the latest software version (to date that's 12.16) and I've just opened a ticket with Garmin support (answer pending).
Same here, twice now. I also paid more attention after first time
I just got my 1040 yesterday (August 25). I charged it fully, went through setup, and finally turned it off (I thought). This morning (August 26), I grabbed it to go on my first ride, and saw it was still on the "power off" screen, with the power symbol showing. The battery was down from 100% to 84%. I really wanted to start from 100% so I could observe battery life over time.
I've owned the Edge 705, 800, 1000, 1030, and 1030 Plus, so I know how to turn the units off. I don't think I've ever had this problem before. I guess I'll have to keep my eyes on the unit, and make sure it turns off.
All is not lost! A lot of people have this problem but the good news (in the discussion below) is that it seems to be resolved in beta 14.14 (has subsequently move through 14.15 and now up to 14.19), so you either wait till a new version release or join beta program and get 14.19 and try it for yourself. The betas much better than current 12.16 and for me has been no downside.
