Edge 1040 during navigation- map keeps redrawing

Just did my first ride with the Edge 1040 with the aim of comparing it to my Karoo 2.

I encountered a weird issue- the map kept getting redrawn once every couple of minutes. Whereby it would disappear almost fully and take a couple of seconds to come back. Has anyone else seen this sort of behaviour??

I also noticed this behavior.
The map image jumps to some old view (where I probably veered off course) and after a while the correct view returns.
Only restarting the whole device helps, the course stop / start does not help.

Is this something you are no longer getting? In my case the screen goes almost fully white, which is why I likened it to the whole map being redrawn.

It was a major annoyance during the ride.

Mine does this every now and again but so did the 1030 plus when there's an upcoming corner etc. One thing that I think is new is that it sometimes shows the start of the route before rerendering the upcoming corner.

For me it takes around 3-4 seconds to redraw the map when it happens. Which is frustrating when a turn is approaching and the screen has gone empty.

Edge 1040 on its way back to Garmin. Will stick with the Karoo 2 for now and give the E1040 a couple of months to mature
