Trailforksmap

I think they've been updating around twice a year but not at the same time as OSM maps.  Based on the 2021 version it has fallen a bit behind this year.

Trailforks allows you to download their own Garmin compatible basemap.  I think it's only updated a few times a year (not sure exactly how many times) - so not sure how much more accurate it will be.  I checked my local state (Indiana) and it was last updated May 6, 2022.  So more recent than Garmin.  

You can either donate to your local trail org and have lifetime access to that state, or pay for "Pro" membership and access all the maps you want.  They have hike, bike, moto.  If you use the bike version, set your profile color to classic or the trails will all be one color. 

That being said, I usually just try to use the Garmin version to keep things simple.  But I have used the Trailforks download when Garmin had corrupted half the trails in Indiana last year (fixed now). 

If you do this, you can get two versions.  A transparent trail map to put on top of the Garmin OSM, or a full map with roads, but they cut a lot of smaller stuff out to avoid clutter.  This 2nd option would not be as nice for navigating streets tho. Don't put both versions on the device at the same time, because only one will show up in your list (even if you re-name them).
