Errorcode 0:9 with connected Varia RTL510

2 days ago i had big problems with my connected Varia RTL510 connected to Edge 1040, all the time i got a Popup with Errorcode 0:9 during my Training Session, so i can't see the Trainings Screen, so it didn't stop for arround 10 minutes or so.

I stopped my ride, powered off the Varia RTL510, powered on and again this stupid Popups with Error Code 0:9

Any idea what goes wrong?

  • Try to tap the error message. As far as I remember it disappeared after tapping.

  • I’ve had this before on the 1030. It’s quite common for people. I’ve often wondered if it’s cars with radar systems going by that cause interference.  I know my car has radar sensors for the adaptive cruise control and emergency braking systems.

Apparently it’s to do with the radar system saturating.  I’d guess another cause might be the position of the sensor and if it picks up lots of reflections close by.

What does seem consistent is people report this is to do with the varia unit and occurs on all edge devices (so doesn’t appear to be due to the device).

  • tapping not helped Smirk

  • worked for years totally fine on Edge 830 and on my first rides on 1040 too, nothing changed on the position

  • Did you just use the “imported” sensor connection. Might be best to delete that sensor and add it as new. I’ve had issues with this when I brought it into the 1040 and come to think of it sensor imports didn’t go to well on the 1030 either.

  • no, i installed the 1040 from scratch, without any import of old settings, i sent a mail to Garmin Support in the meanwhile, but think i don't get answer before the weekend

  • That error message is a radar target saturation warning sent by the Radar unit and is a temporary self correcting issue so displaying the warning has little value.

The bigger issue here is that you cannot clear the warning.

  • I recall that I had this error message a few days ago and it cleared when I tapped it. However, given that the radar overload is a transient problem the error message should automatically clear once the overload has ended as the warning is only needed while the radar isn't able to operate properly.

  • Also got it on my new 1040 Solar (with the RTL510 as well).

I've used this Varia for years on my Edge 530 and never got this error.

I only tapped on the notification and it went away, but I'm wondering how useful is a such notification... should it be completely removed?

  • Glad to know that Garmin problems with RTL510 are tje same with 1040 :-(

this problem occured on older edge x30 with latest firmwares. This error is useless ans should’nt be displayed !
