Map data not loading

I dont usually use the maps but I found myself exploring a new area today. Decided to use the opportunity to check out the 1040 maps.

If I open Navigation, and then choose Browse Map - Blank screen. It shows the magnifiers, my position, and the menu and back icons, but no actual map data.

If I open Navigation, then choose MTB Trail Navigation it shows the busy animation for a few seconds and then says "No results found"

If I switch to the map view where it says "Ready to Navigate" it is also blank of any actual map data.

I recently applied all the available map updates when connected to Garmin Express. There were no errors and it now shows that I am up to date. 12.16 is installed.

Any ideas of things to check or try?

Thanks.

  • Solved:

Connected to Garmin Express. Manage Maps. Remove all the APAC and EU maps. Restart.

    Observations:

The map panning in the navigation screen (touch and drag) is inconsistent with the map panning in the map screen (touch the little hand icon first). Not sure why these work differently. It seems like a consistent UX would be better?

The maps seem a little buggy. Jumping around erratically. Sometimes I need to exit the navigation screen and then re-enter it and then the maps work as expected.

Removing the extra maps have made my device power/boot MUCH faster. That's a plus.
