Varia RTL501 connection issue to Edge1040

Hello, just bought the Edge1040 but my Varia RTL501 rearview radar + led lights cannot be connected. I have tried it multiple times but I cannot get it connected.

I still have my old Edge1000 and connecting the Varia RTL501 is no problem, the Edge1000 immediately recognizes the 501.

So why doesn't the Edge1040 recognizes the 501?

Anybody with same experience?

I have also had this problem. I could not fix it but did find a walk around. There is a connect IQ data field called 'smart bike lights' that you can download, add as a data field and control your lights…

You need to put the Radar into pairing mode (and update your EDGE to the latest software).
EDIT: Mistake. The 501 does not have a pairing mode. SO make sure your EDGE is on the latest software.

Did you get this sorted as I have exactly the same problem with mine. Worked perfectly with 1030

yes, the reply I got from Garmin was that the Edge 1040 is incompatible with the RTL501. so, I had to buy another version varia.

My rtl501 works perfectly with my new 1040 solar.
with the initial setup of the 1040 all settings from my edge1000 were copied, including the lights
