Power symbol on screen

Twice, I have had a large power symbol appear on the screen of my 1040 Solar after turning it off.  Both times, it would not turn back on when I pushed the power button on the side and I couldn't get the power symbol on the screen to go away.  It appeared to be locked up.  I had to hold the power button for a 3 - 5 seconds which made the power symbol go away and a horizontal line appear about 1/3 of the way down the screen.  Then eventually the horizontal line went away and it looked like the screen of the 1040 finally turned off.  Has anyone seen this large power symbol appear on the screen?  If so, what does it mean and how do I get out of it?

Here is a picture of the power symbol on the screen:

  • Same for me a week ago. Happened twice after a ride. version 12.16

  • Same for me a week ago. Happened twice after a ride. version 12.16

  • I joined the Beta program and downloaded Beta 14.14.  The problem is now fixed on my unit! Thumbsup tone3

  • I can confirm, with the beta 14.14 the problem seems to be fixed.

  • I am having the same issue. 1040 Solar. Power down counts down, then freezes with power icon symbol onscreen and clear screen activation. First time I thought it was a new feature, and I left my unit unplugged because at power dune I had 96% left. But the next day the unit was dead, so this partial off state still drains power! Second time I kept it plugged in, But even charged fully, when I tried to turn the 1040 on it would not power on on multiple power button tries! Had to hold a reset device to get out of this locked on mode. ???  This is a big deal as it starts your ride off delayed and frustrated, and the device’s power level uncertain.

  • This is such an annoying Garmin issue. My 1030 did this so often it was one of the key reasons I bought the 1040. I do find the 1040 does it a lot less than the 1030 which almost got to a 50/50 time of use. But it is happening.  The 1030 would do it almost every time if I ever charged it to 100%. I could charge it to only 96% and it was a lot better.  Maybe it’s because I hardly charge the 1040 as it last so long. But even today everything is ok, I plug the charger in as I want to put a bit of charge in as it’s at 63%. Whole unit freezes and needs a hard reset. Fine afterwards, but why….

  • @iheathcock &  What software do you have? This issue was reported to be fixed in the later 14.x betas (further up the page), the subsequent 14.20 release is being rolled out now

  • Still on12.16 for the 1040.  But the 1030 has been doing this through a number of updates.  It’s on the most current, but they haven’t released a newer version for a while..

  • Thanks for the reply. I updated to 14.20 this week. It has not happened since that update (2 rides), but it was intermittent before as well.

  • Same here but random, not all the time.
