Map zoom buttons (+ - hand) always on screen?

On all my previous edge devices the plus, minus, and hand icons would disappear after a few seconds of having the map on.  Now on my 1040 Solar they are on screen all the time.  Do I have something set wrong?  Is this a bug or a new standard?  Thanks

  • I've been told it is by design.

  • For me it's much more practical that way, the buttons don't take away my change of vision and it's much more direct to change the zoom. It would be nice if Garmin made these changes, always giving the option in configuration to put one or the other system. Just like when they removed the big white arrow from the high visibility position... That was a ***, sorry

  • Happy about it as well.

Better would be to delete the 'hand' and have the map Swipe-able at all times just like it was on let's say garmin oregon which I have as well.

No idea why Garmin doesn't allow to swipe on the map instantly.

Sometimes it easy when looking forward to suitable road, not having to push the hand...

  • yes, but how would you pass the screen if sliding the map did not pass the screen?

In my opinion Garmin should release a new remote control with a wheel where you can easily zoom in zoom out without moving your hand from the handlebar, scrolling screens, turning lights on/off, etc...
