Solar Charging Hardly Works. What gives? Is my unit faulty??

Been using my 1040 solar for a few weeks now and on 12.16 and solar charging hardly works during my ride even though the temps are not overheating the unit.

The pic I posted is after turning it off after being inside for 15 minutes and it is 70 degrees. What gives and does anyone else have these problems. Between this and Strava segments not always working have to say this unit is becoming a slight bummer. I enjoy Garmin and been a fan for a while and know the battery without solar is amazing just want everything to work

Have the fit files if Garmin can see as this has to be a bug. Where do I send them?? I would think it is a firmware issue as sometimes it works and other times it does not. When it works I typically have to restart the unit.

  • same issue here. SOLAR Panel doesn't do anything....even in sunny circumstances.

  • yes I have been testing and it is hit and miss. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Sent in some FIT files to garmin to have them check.

  • I'm seeing something similar. Mine actually seems to be working because the battery discharge rate is slow, which is good, but it always says 0% intensity even when standing in full sun. You'll get used to all the problems after a while! Slight smile

  • I am not sure mine is the same because if it was I would see the solar tab in my activity in GC. Sometimes I see it and sometimes I don't. I just want it to work each time or Garmin to tell us at what battery level to see it (IE 98% it will be active). I don't think the battery level has a lot to do with it even though it does some because there are some rides where I was at 98% battery and 3% intensity and gained 2 min back.
