ClimpPro needs to work WITHOUT a course!

I left Garmin for the Hammerhead Karoo2 (K2) just after it launched.  I wanted a better display, better navigation and I wanted to support "the little guy" with the promise of continuous updates and refinements.

Fast forward I still love my K2, but it's lack of Crash Detection, so so battery life (8 hours MAYBE) and the final straw, loosing my Di2 functionality on the unit, made me come back to the Garmin Ecosystem.

Now that I'm back, I have all those things I missed and more plus Garmin fixed a lot of the things that drove me out (Garmin navigation of all things WAS terrible, but it's way better now in rhe1040, but Garmin could still learn a few lessons from Hammerhead when it comes to navigation Thinking

  1. Garmin PLEASE Pray tone3 let ClimbPeo be enabled ALL THE in or out of a route! This one feature on the K2 that is such a joy!  As you approach a hill, it pops up and displays all the relevant metrics related to the climb as well as the total number of climbs you've ridden and all you had to do was press Start at the beginning of your ride Heart eyes

Note:. Hmmerhead/SRAMS is NOT at fault for loosing Di2 functionality, but rather Shimano having a tantrum and making it's customers suffer... I'm looking at you Shimano Rage

  • In theory when I go to mountains I have predefined route , for climb pro functionality , navigation bla bla

But , if I deviate the route , and still I want to have climb pro , then I go in map mode, hit the hand button and pin and navigate where I think that is the end of the climb to generate climb pro page

I know that is not exactly easy, but its an workaround

  • When they fix all the current bugs, which are not few, we'll see about adding new things...

  • Yep , but Garmin implement the Profile and Sensor transfer

As I told you  , I went to my Garmin provider with my Edge, they have replaced with brand new device ,  due to warranty

After first setup, I would aspect that profiles and sensors will be same as the previous device (without having manual backup)

  • Sorry but, without a route how it should know climbs you will find ?

  • I support the request to Garmin to add ClimpPro features without starting the course. Segments can be done without using a course and ClimpPro cannot?

  • "Sorry but, without a route how it should know climbs you will find ?"

Pretty easily actually.  As long as a road or trail is displayed, then the map database almost always contains the metadata for it (topographic, lane count & categorization, direction, etc.). The unit through GPS and dead reckoning can see you're on it, which way you're going and your at the beginning of the climb.

Once you've experienced CLIMBER on the K2 work in realtime, you absolutely accept it's brilliant!  It appears the only reason Garmin doesn't just do this as well, is thst entering a course is like giving it "permission" to display a functionality it can easily just do on its own otherwise?

Here's an example of a similar function Garmin already does (as does Hammerhead) and you don't need a course entered.... Upcoming sharp turn ahead warnings.  The unit sees what's coming and determines a warning needs to be displayed based on the metadata contained in the map and the rules programed into the unit software. The Garmin unit COULD do the same thing for climbing as is witnessed when you have a course entered and as Hammerhead has implemented.

Garmin we're looking at you now... When are you going to turn on this most amazing and incredibly useful function to operate outside a course?

    Please....

  • @karzyeone thx brother, I'll give it a try! Pray tone3

  • . Asking for additional functionality DOES NOT mean they won't prioritize fixing bugs, it just means here's a wish list item from another corner of the room.  There's space for all voices here Slight smile

Breath brother, the programmers working on a project of this scale have a huge task in front of them and need to work on fixes methodically and sometimes that means slowly.. "we don't wanna break 3 more things trying to resolve one".

Lots of these bugs might only affect a very small percentage of users, but they also understand that to those folks it's 100% of there frustration too Thumbsup tone3

Bike Ride safe all BikeSlight smile

  • How would it work if a climb split to two or more different locations?
