How lo load/store own POI files on GARMIN EDGE 1040?

Hi All,

On my EDGE 1030 it's easy to load my own Points of Interests categorised in several .gpi files like watertap points and favorite address.

Have several (category-) files (in .gpi format) which on the 1030 could be stored easily:
* Garmin
* map name POI
* submap name POI
* file names H2O and 'Fav Address'

worked like navigate/search/other/ H2O (resp Fav Address)

Here on the 1040 this trick doesn’t work and I cannot see where the standard POI files are stored.

Does anybody know how to load and store own .gpi (POI) files?

Thanks beforehand and kind regards,

Ronald

  • Also on the new Edge Explore 2 it natively is not possible to add your own POI's as .gpi, created with the POI Editor or from a different source.
    Triggered by your question for the Edge 1040 I have created a new folder ..\Garmin\POI on the Explore 2 and copied a .gpi file from an external source containing the Cycle route junctions for the whole cycle route network in the Netherlands. And what? The junctions are visible on the map screen and you even can search for the junction numbers in the Course Creator under (odly...) 'Cities' while creating a course on the device. I have not tried a .gpi that was created with the POI Editor, and don't know if everything is working faultless.

    Maybe this trick, workaround or whatever you like to call this will work too on the Edge 1040?

  • Copying the gpi file isn't a "trick". It's the normal way POIs are installed to the units.

    The other POI thread says POIs are not supported on the 1040.

  • Just in case anyone else runs across this - I just reconfirmed with Garmin. POI Loader is not supported on the current Edge devices.

    Real bummer!

  • Everyone who would like to have this feature, please commit it as idea: https://www.garmin.com/forms/ideas/

    I guess it is more likely to get thsi feature, if more people requesting it.
