Zoom lag

Hello all,
Just received my Garmin 1040 solar, after a great experience with 530 and 830.
Updated it to 12,16. Reset it to be sure all is ok.
Made my configurations and made my first ride.
I was surprised that when the 1040 tries to adjust the zoom, it lags for about 2seconds (video here).
I even disabled maps I don't used but it didn't make any difference.
Is this normal amongst others? Not really keen on this behaviour.
I already perceived the UI is slower compared to 830, and the touch acts on some menus (I struggled to remove sensors for example, while in other menus I sucessfuly removed options) but this is a bit unnaceptable for a navigation devivce at 750eur.

Let me know if yours is the same or mine is deffective.

  • I have the same problem. I try with autozoom, no autozoom. And map page flash a instant a lot of times...

  • I assume you are talking about Auto-Zoom. Are you expecting it to move in real-time, i.e. to flow up the map like a film?

I think with Auto-Zoom, the map is showing 500M. As you travel forwards it does not move like a film, it adjusts based on position and, basically, jumps. I originally had Auto-Zoom by mistake and this is how it worked. (I cannot see from your video exactly what is happening, to shaky.)

It’s possibly due to how & when Garmin records your position, which is not constant. I do not, however, know how it  works technically, but I do not think the map on Zoom mode will constantly move if that is what you are expecting.

  • Nothing of that. The problem that the colleague comments is that every so often the map flashes and shows a shot with a very far zoom level and then returns to its position. In other Garmins it does not happen. I think it's a bug when it's going to give a turn signal, etc... it doesn't keep the zoom it has and it has that unwanted effect.

  • same here. Sometimes the zoom level goes all the way up, and then goes back to normal. Must be a bug, as this never happened on my 1030 plus.
