Ascent to Next Course Point data field error

I quite often use courseponits while navigating. This fiel is one of utmost importance for me. I worked well on Edge 830, but not on 1040. It shows very low numbers mostly 0 as if trackpoints were used insteat of coursepoint. But strange thing happens when I pause navigation. At that moment correct data appear and are maintained until the navigation is resumed. Anyone with the same experience ? How can I Garmin let know about that ???  They do not read this forum, do they ?

  • Did you import your activity profiles?  Garmin changed the fields.  You will need to change to the new format. Look for the segments time / distance discussion locked in bold on first page.

  • Thank you for advice, I made new profile in 1040 itself, but it did not help. Still the Ascent to Next Coursepoint data field is zero until I pause navigation. Then it is correct. Definitely it is an error of 1040 firmware, but I can live with that silly workaround (pause and resume navigation).

  • Just checking again you are using the distance / time to next field not the “to go” field. The problem with segments was the old way was using “to go” and it showed exactly the issue you had. When I changed these “to next” they all worked again.

  • I do not use "to go" field. I use "Ascent to Next Coursepoint" which is clear. Moreover, it works but unfortunately only when I pause navigation. I must be the firmware bug. But fortunately it is easy to pause and resume navigation on 1040, just two touches on the screen.

  • Finally I found out where is the problem. When navigating the 1040 shows in data field Ascent to Next Coursepoint the ascent to the Next point of navigation (crossing with errow). When navigation paused it behaves correctly and shows really ascent to next course point. I kindly ask Garmin to correct the bug, thanks.

  • I experienced the same thing. The 'Asc. to Next Course Pt.' data field shows the remaining ascent to the 'next point'. When you are navigating, this 'next point' is the point of the next navigation instruction. When you are not navigating, this 'next point' is the next course point. Thus, 'Asc to Next Course Pt.' is only correct when you are not navigating.

It is the same with the data field 'Distance to Next'. When you are navigating, the field 'Distance to Next' shows the distance to the point of the next navigation instruction. When you are not navigating, the field 'Distance to Next' shows the distance to the next course point, which is the same as the data field 'Course Pt. Distance'.

However, in the case of the 'Asc. to Next Course Pt.', the name of the data field clearly indicates that it should show the remaining ascent to the next course point, and not the remaining ascent to the point of the next navigation instruction. Therefore, this is indeed a bug. @vmojzisek, did you file a ticket with garmin for this bug? I am interested to know when they solve this.

  • @mweijs  I did not file a ticket for this bug and I would appreciate if you do that. I have no experience with it. I hoped it was enough to describe the bug here. Moreover I am not native English speaker and therefore I would not be able to describe the matter clearly.

  • I doubt that it is enough to post the bug on this forum. The Garmin folks do monitor this forum, and sometimes, when a bug draws a lot of attention, they join in. But that is certainly not the case with all forum threads. And as far as I can tell, the new Garmin Edge 1040 has quite a few bugs unfortunately.

The Garmin website has a chat functionality, where you can directly talk to the Garmin people, usually in your own language. So that's what I did. I excited their interest for this matter, and I have sent them a reproducible scenario, which they will investigate.

    So fingers crossed.
