The Edge 1040 is still dropping the Power Meter.

The Edge 1040 is still dropping the Power Meter.  I am running Vector 3 pedals and have firmware 12.15 on the 1040.  Out for rides Weds and Thurs and both days got the Disconnected / Connected messages popping up and loss of data.  It seemed to disconnect every 30 seconds or so and then reconnect about the same after.  Any clues as to when this will be fixed?  As it is the unit is useless to me as I train to Power and Cadence - neither of which work!

  • Did you ever try a full shutdown and start up.  Sometimes this clears up odd issues. Both my stages and Shimano power meters are solid connections

  • What troubleshooting have you done on your end previously to address this? I only ask this to not suggest redundant steps to you.

It would be helpful to know if you have any other sensors paired to your 1040, and if they had any drop outs as well, or if they stayed connected as expected. Also, with your permission, if you provide us with dates of activities that are a good example of this, we can look at these in your account to see if we can determine something simple to suggest.

In the meantime, I would suggest removing your vector pedals as a sensor completely, and then pairing again as if new. This would be in addition to checking SW versions and battery levels.

  • I have paired the pedals but can't remember if that was before updating to 12.15.  I had problems from the start with dropping and so checked the s/w on the pedals as that sorted it when I first got the pedals and replaced the batteries as they were showing low before I got the 1040.  I will try an pair again to see it that works.  That won't be until mid next week now so I'll let you know if it works.

I run the Varia RTL 510, a heart monitor and di2 connections and they all see solid.

Happy for you to look at my account.

  • Thanks.  I'll try to pair the pedals again as Garmin have suggested and if that doesn't work try a full reset.

  • I am having the same issue, happened several times on a 2hr ride today. Started from having the 1040 solar completely powered down.

  • Interesting. I noticed this for the first time today myself - XC200 and an Edge 1040 Solar, both about 1-month old.

A temp fix while I was riding was to go into "Sensors", switch the XC200 "OFF", then "ON" again - it seemed to stay connected for the rest of the ride.

When I got home, I disconnected/removed the sensor from the 1040 and re-added it - will test out on my next ride.

EDIT - also of possible interest, I got a Varia Radar error today, while connected to an RCT715. (see attached pic)

  • I deleted the pedals today from both the 1040 and my phone and redetected.  After setting the up the 1040 also updated the firmware to 12.16.  I have just got back from a 1:15hr ride and everything seems stable now.  I lost readings from cadence twice for about 10-15 secs that I noticed but on both occasions I didn't get the "Lost Power Meter', 'Redetected Power Meter' messages I was getting before along with the warning beeps.  I'll keep an eye as previous loses have been over slightly longer rides, but this looks like it has cured the issue.  Thanks for the support.

  • Because of 4iiii power meter keep dropping, I have to delay my Ironman training schedule. I should buy later until the system is stable or keep using 130 plus Frowning2 I have tested on fenix 6x and edge 130 plus seem working fine. ️

  • Any solutions for this? I just recently upgraded from 1030 to 1040, and I am disappointed. I have three bikes. 2 with rotor inspider and 1 with Garrmin Vector 3. PM keeps dropping steadily. I also pay for structured training, which has been a waste since it can't be connected for more than 5 minutes. I was solid with 1030. I always factor reset, unpaired and paired again, etc. I have the most updated version of software, and my battery is full. Expensive products should work well.

  • Same Isuue here with Rotor Inspider Garmin and Inspider on newest firmwares..
