Garmin 1040 Solar Screen Cracked

Hello, a crack appeared on my "Garmin 1040 Solar" after 3 weeks of use and about 3000 km (image 1) ... He did not fall and had no shock (image 2) !

Am I the only one who has encountered this problem ?

I am a big user of "Garmin Edge" several models and thousands of km and I never had any problem of screen.

Thank you for your feedback

  • Troll Question :What do you aspect from the answer perspective ? that all of the users that have Solar version to have the cracked screen?

You have to contact Garmin support  , or your local vendor and they to deal with specific situation

  • The user was right to report and ask if the glass of the Edge 1040 solar had broken to someone else, simply because in this way you can take note of a defect related to use. Such a large screen is delicate despite having done some tests. I myself had the Edge 800 and Edge 810 and in mountain bike use, the touchscreen stopped working because both the screen and the contacts came off. This post of DidWee is helpful.

  • I understand perfect , but who can tell if this is something related to glass manufacturing or something cracked by user side

Only Garmin , or dealer, they know if something related to the procedures of warranty

I have on my 1040 one dead pixel, its not like all have dead pixels

  • Not seen this on mine, thanks for posting. Hoping there aren't any screen issues with the 1040 but interested to know what support says. Also this forum needs the ability to block/mute abusive individuals.

  • Imagine that you are an user that you are planning to buy Garmin 1040 , and imagine that you browsing web , and then you find this topic, and imagine that you are reading and panic that all Garmin display will crack or potentially have display problem.

I am trying to say that ok, its bad that this happen

My feeling that it does not matter of the type of the device(Solar/ Non solar) , it's bad luck , unfortunately only someone from Garmin  and not the end users cad handle this type of problems

  • I would recommend contacting Garmin Customer Support and get it replaced.

  • Good luck.  That certainly looks like damage caused by a knock as it is on the corner.  You may have knocked it and not even noticed.  It’s going to be hard to convince the supplier of anything different I would think.  Yes the plastic isn’t damaged but that doesn’t prove it either way.  I’ve seen phones with cracked screens and the surround has not evidence of a knock.

I think if you get it exchanged you relying on the goodwill of the supplier more than anything. Hoping the best for you.

  • It could also have been a hole in the tarmac that transmitted the impact to the point furthest from the lock on the EDGE bracket. by now I am not surprised by anything, I have banned the touchscreen displays for cycling after having had negative experiences with the edge 800 and 810. With much larger displays I do not think it has changed indeed, we have no reports of the functioning of the screens but only of fins broken due to the weight of the instruments, with the 1040 aluminum fins were made ... the plastic supports will break!

In any case, we await the response of the garmin assistance center, hoping they are clear and not evasive.

  • Its huge difference from 810 to any of the Edge  830 , 1030+ , 1040 series

its huge difference from 1030 to 1040 touch screen

not perfect, like phone , but almost perfect

  • Thank you for your messages.

So I contacted my bike store and Garmin doesn't want to see or hear anything because they say it's due to a fall (without even doing an investigation)

I have no support and help from Garmin!
