Is there a 12.16 release imminent?

I'm back home from vacation and need to make the decision to keep or return the 1040. As-is, it isn't fit to keep no matter how many different ways I try to convince myself that it is. If there is a substantial update imminent I'll hang tight a couple more days. I really want this thing to work for me but I'm running out of time.

Thanks!

  • You can expect a update. But when is unclear, could be tomorrow but could also be in two weeks or further.

More curious what is the big showstopper for you atm? Coming from 830 I'm a happy user atm. Few known issues are workable and I know they will be fixed soon.

  • LOL. That is an honest accurate but extremely unhelpful answer! :) I wasn't looking for a speculative answer from a user. I was looking for an insightful one from the Garmin team. Just the same I'm upvoting your answer because it is the answer that I deserve for asking a stupid question here.

Big showstopper is my battery/charging/discharge/solar problem - which could be hardware, but given the sheer number of other software problems I've been experiencing I wouldnt rule out the possibility that it could just get fixed with an update. Which would obviously be preferable to returning it or exchanging it.

As of today, I'll be taking my 830 when I ride, not the 1040. I simply dont trust the 1040 to not die on me, plague me with weird alerts, drop sensors, or who knows what else. All of which could possibly be resolved with a quality update.

  • If you're having that many issues I'd raise a ticket with Garmin, you probably have a faulty device.  I just did 4 days in the mountains with mine running on latest firmware and it was faultless.

  • I’m with you.  I’ve now done 17 separate rides with the 1040. Ranging from two long rides, 85 & 125miles, both with Navigation.  I use multiple sensors from HR, Power, Di2, speed.  Phone connection.  The only real problem I’ve had is the issue with the segment page and swapping the time/distance to go fields.

I had a few glitches, but nothing that got me bothered.  I had the Radar/Light RTL515 issue when first trying to connect.  I also had it not uploading via wifi after I did it via the phone Bluetooth.  But I’ve seen this before  I rebooted, problem gone.  Other issues turned out to be “user error”

I haven’t charged it since doing the 125 miles ride and it’s now done over 200 miles, and 12.5 hours and the battery level is still 60%.

  • I'm at 17 hours of recording time and have 40% battery left.  About half is road with power meter, HR, radar, Di2, and phone connected.  The other half is MTB with HR, speed sensor, and phone connected.

Yours is definitely not right.  With as many issues as you are having it's either a hardware problem, or you should try a factory reset and add sensors/profiles manually instead of syncing them from Connect if you haven't already.

  • I see .16 just dropped. Going to install and do a full reset of everything tomorrow and see what that does. *fingers crossed*

I rode with my 830 today. It was AMAZING that everything just worked. Sluggish and slow and I realized how much I appreciate the larger screen and fonts of the 1040, but having everything just work made me feel all the more justified complaining about the 1040 problems. :)

  • You should return the product if you don't trust it. Simple as that.

  • I am curious what type of troll are you

You open 2-3 topics, random and without any correlation between logic

What do you aspect , Garmin to release new FW your specific device ?

If you have a problem, go to your shop, return it , warranty , and that it...

For example I have a small problem, a dead pixel on my Garmin 1040 , I spoke with my local bike shop and they will exchange it , but I don't wait for nobody answer and I don't start stupid topics

Btw Beta 12.16 was released , and guess what, your problem was not solved

  • Too soon to draw a conclusion about this release.

We don't yet know if .16 fixes any issues, there hasnt been adequate time to test yet.

  • I really suggest you send yours back and get another brand.
