Map screen

Hey everyone, I’m on a ride right now with the 1040. And I have to ask, my map screen looks all messed up. I have two fields on the lower part of the screen, distance to destination and heading. But they take up like 40% of my screen. On the edge 1000, they were small, little fields at the bottom taking up only about maybe 15% of the overall map real estate. But this is unusable. I like the map to be a lot bigger, like it is on my edge 1000, with those two fields at the bottom. Is there any way to lower the size of those fields, and increase the size of the map? I suppose I can put those fields on another screen, but I really don’t want to, I really like them on that screen with the map.

  • OK just some more information I pulled over to mess with this. This is really obnoxious! The only way I could get rid of all that nonsense, was to stop the course I was riding. What was taking up a lot of room was this idiotic, moronic rectangle with a green “course line“ dead center. When I stopped the course, thank God that disappeared. Is there any way to get rid of that toxic waste while I’m riding a course? Because I really don’t want that crap on my screen if I’m completely honest. It takes up way too much real estate, and it’s a completely useless feature to me. I tried editing the screens, but I found no way of getting rid of that.

  • OK, so I stopped my ride and called Garman connect. Apparently the problem was that for some reason by default, I had the altimeter on the map screen not sure how that happened. But I was able to aluminate that quickly with the help of Garmin -support.

  • I think adding the elevation profile to the map when navigating is enabled by default.

  • Yes it was, and I eliminated it. Much better now!
