Edge 1040 Case

Hey for anyone buying one, where are you getting your silicon cases from? Not storage cases, I want the ones that protect it while riding and taking it off the bike to charge. They seem to be out of stock everywhere I am looking. My LBS just got my standard 1040 in, so I would rather get some protection for the device sooner rather than later.

  • I have ordered directly from Garmin and will get it only in 8-10 weeks…

  • I’m using one from my 1030, it’s close enough to fit just fine

  • My 1040 Solar came with one. Do the regular versions not come with one? That's kind of lame if so.

  • I’m using one from my 1030, it’s close enough to fit just fine

I may just snag a 1030 one then, thanks! Is it a good fit? Or is it like a little clumsy?

  • I don't know if I agree with you there. If for no other reason than I kind of regard the solar feature as a little bit of a gimmick, that to most riders I believe would be pretty much useless. I like that they give you guys who spent the extra $150 a couple of extra perks other than just the solar, as that is a pretty steep price increase.

  • This is the kwmobile case from Amazon. Audio is still fine with speaker covered and it’s only $8. I never tried the official Garmin 1030 cover on this though as I sold it with my 1030.

  • It's not a perfect fit, but I ordered one off Amazon for about the same price you paid. It will do to keep my 1040 protected until the actual proper cases become more available, thanks!

  • For what it's worth, I got the Solar version which came with the Garmin case...and I'm not impressed with the case.

The rubber is kind of soft and floppy and the entire back is open. The result of this is the edges kind of bow outward. Would it protect from a drop? Probably... but it's not confidence inspiring, and it probably won't hold up well long-term.

I wish a company like Otterbox offered their "Symmetry" cases for bike computers - they have a harder plastic frame coated with rubber, survive drops on concrete and last the life of a phone.

  • It is very similar to the type for the 1030 which I have.  It actually works very well.  I don’t see you need the same type as phones have. The Edge is either fixed to a bike or on the side. If it comes off while on the bike for some reason it should in most cases do its best to protect the device.  I think if you tried to cover everything you would end up with a very bulky and heavy case.

  • I'm using my non-Garmin 1030 case which fits fine although I needed to enlarge the hole over the charging socket cover.
