there are blank fields on the bottom of the screen but I can't change them, they're still blank. I can't edit them in 1040 and over the phone. Can it be done in some way?
in the official video, garmin has additional options added, so the question is how can this be changed / added
Note that none of the screens (neither from Garmin marketing video nor the link to the other posts in the forum) shows actual (default) workout screen (there is no swipe icon on the bottom). Instead it's showing a custom screen (e.g. created using guide from here https://support.trainerroad.com/hc/en-us/articles/360028380691-Creating-a-Custom-Garmin-Screen )
In a custom screen you have freedom of layout and the fields. One downside is that you can't disable the default screen so you have two when swiping across your all screens:
Works very well, except one annoyance of one redundant Default Custom screen.

PS: Self-update - I noticed now that on 1040 the bottom screen swipeup icon disappears after a while. So it could be a default workout screen:
