SW 12.15 Dropping Sensors/Powermeter not calibrating

So went out for my first LONG ride today with my new 1040 and really like it compared to my, well, 1000 I bought in 2014! However, I noticed two things:

1. Like others had issues with, mine is dropping sensors and reconnecting. So I'll constantly get reconnected notices for my HR strap, SRAM spider based power meter and ETap. Towards the end of the ride I noticed it dropped long enough that the data would disappear.

2. Also when it asks me to calibrate the powermeter and I hit "calibrate" I notice it calibrates it then just says "Torque" on the screen. On my 1000 it would have a number.

I am on software verson 12.15 and I thought 12.14 remedied the dropout issue looking at the prior post. Anyone on 12.15 have issues with it? Thanks!

  • Same for 1040 Solar/PowerTap G3. No torque value is shown.

  • Why show value of calibration.  What does it mean to you?

If you know the ballpark of a normal value for the atmospheric conditions you are in, and the value returned is out of line with that, you can calibrate again. This happens.

  • "Why show value of calibration.  What does it mean to you?" I agree, but I find it odd it just says the word "torque" and nothing else? Why that? I don't want to just assume. And...it still doesn't fix the dropout issues I'm having which were supposed to be gone with 12.14. So there is that.

  • There are different reasons to report a calibration value. For power meters that report torque it allows you to perform a static torque test to check their accuracy. For power meter that report an offset value you can see if the power meter is within spec.

  • My Rally XC200 shows a torque value after calibration. Maybe what show depends on what the particular power meter returns?  Som return tOrvieto and others return some sort of status value?

  • I've seen the same "torque" message, but I don't see it every time. It is unclear what conditions cause it to occur.

  • Same here, I,m using stages power meters and all it says is Torque and above calibration successful

  • Same here I have a solar and as power meter an old BePro and an Assioma, for both when the calibration is successful a zero is shown, if not a different number appeared.

It was like this with 1030 and 510 as well, not with the 1040, the word "copia" in italian, torque in english I think, is shown without any number and without any evidence of the result of the calibration

  • Well, went out on another long ride today and sure enough, still dropping sensors. HR, Power and my Varia radar. Guess I'll be calling Garmin on Monday-Tuesday to see what they say. The Auto Start/Stop is very laggy as well like someone else mentioned but that isn't a huge deal. I'm loving the new unit, but the sensor drops are ANNOYING and happen FAR too frequently. So if they can't fix it then I may return and go back to my old 1000. <crosses fingers>

  • I did my first long ride with 1040 with the 12.15 update. The only problem I had was that it kept dropping my SRAM shifters out and reconnecting constantly about every three to four seconds. I would get the 'Sensor disconnected' message, then a few seconds later 'Sensor connected.' It was annoying to always have one of those two messages covering the top of my display for 90 minutes.
